124/126 Transmission differences?

Can a 722.317 (124) transmission be made to work in a 126 (86' SDL - 722.321)? I found a good deal on a used tranny out of a 124 wagon.

Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure not. Check the start bump location.

Thanks winmutt, but the start bump's not a problem between these two units. Barring a few ancillary components, the engines between these models are identical (didn't mention the 124 was a diesel, although the 722.317 might have given that away to a tranny guru -- I, on the other hand, had to look up the number). The differences in diesel trannys of this series might be in gearing and in speedo connections.

Looking for someone who has experience with these two units to comment. Thanks in advance!

Bump. Anyone? Am I going to have to buy this thing to see what I have to do to make it work?

Or does anyone know whom I may contact for the information I seek?

Thanks!!

I went through this looking for information on transmission specifics a couple of years ago, figured the difference between a couple of transmissions was basically shift points and torque-converter stall speed, ... never did get a clear answer.

IIRC, the 126's have an electric speedometer sensor. You'll have to change the rear housing.

Now we're getting somewhere!! Thanks. I'd heard that the rear housing might be where the difference lay.

Is it simply a matter of swapping mine for the one on the 124 tranny?
