"Diesel-Only" Label on Gas Cap?

Greetings - Has anybody ever created a "Diesel-Only" label or sign that attaches to either the gas cap or the area around the filler opening? Here in NJ they still fill the tank for you.

Thanks,
- bigmaq

My E300TD is labeled DIESEL on the inside of the fuel door. --Not real evident to an Oregon or NJ gas-jockey.

My Ford PowerStroke diesel is labeled DIESEL FUEL ONLY, on the outside of the fuel door.

Diesel owners do not have to let them fill your tank. That only applies to gasoline cars.

Mine has a factory diesel label in the tank filler area.

you think the loud engine, the smell, and the smoke would give a person a clue

Of course, we would never make that mistake. It's just when my wife takes the car and tries to fill up the "gas" tank.

All the five I've owned, same thing.

I've always told the gas gimps fill it up with DIESEL.

All of mine have some sort of label or another. In fact, my Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser station wagon, even has it in the dash gauge cluster, underneath the fuel gauge. It says, "Diesel Fuel Only" and it says the same thing in the filler area behind the fuel door.

When I was like 17 or something, I worked at U-Haul. We used to constantly get customer service phone calls from U-Haul Road-Side, and such, about customers having put gas in the Diesel trucks. They'd be lucky to get out of the gas station parking lot. The they would call us yelling and screaming as if it were our fault or something. U-Haul trucks all have it written everywhere you look on them. Filler area, visor, operators manual, dash board, and even in some other odd U-Haul installed places. People still did it all the time though.

I don't know what kind of damage it does internally but the trucks were very often gone for repairs for long periods of time. I think because they'd fix them and just get them on the road. Some never returned to our location at all.

A "Diesel Fuel Only" sticker will not stop an illiterate New Joisey pump jockey from putting gasoline in it. I know this from firsthand experience.

Hatterasguy 12-15-2007 06:53 PM

So you are assuming the guys in NJ who pump fuel can read? Thats a pretty big assumption.

Its NJ this is how you do it:

1. Open window
2. Hey ()*^*()^*))* its diesel, fill it with that you ^&(*^()&)&*.

Thats how the natives do it.:D

My 05 has a red ring that says diesel only that snaps on the lip of the filler tube. Since it also fits my wife's '91 I may order one for her car just in case. I have looked on the Star EPCnet and can't find the thing, I need to look at it again to see if it has a part # on the ring.

Can I really pump my own diesel in NJ?

Getting back to Forced's comment, can I really pump my own Diesel here? None of the nozzle-monkeys manning the stations have ever told me that. They still come over and pump it for you same as with the gas customers.

I think I'll just start pumping it myself and see if anybody yells at me.
