Noise from power steering when cold

I have not seen this in other posts about cold weather so I thought I'd ask. My 123 starts right up in the cold, but I'm carefully slow when steering for the first few minutes, because I hear an unpleasant noise from the power steering. It goes away as soon as the car warms up, and hasn't gotten worse; I'm hoping this is a common thing. I don't want my power steering to go. Keep in mind this happens only when the car sits overnight below freezing without a block heater.

Could this be from lack of fluid, or need of service?

Don't you love it when you start the old diesel up on a cold morning; her personality shows, almost like she's saying, "Damnit Tyler, its too friggen cold. LEAVE ME ALONE, grrr... cough, cough, POW! Alright, let's go, but I'm not happy about it."

Mine started making an odd noise today, it's very cold out. I looked under the cap and it was about an inch low. I added an inch of fluid and it is quiet now.

Check the belt for dryness, change the belt and see if the noise goes away. Also change the oil and filter in the pump.
