Free IP for 240d... anyone want it?

Hi all:

I'm doing some winter cleaning and can't bear to toss this IP. Anyone want it gratis? I don't know how much it will be to ship.

PM me if interested.

Thanks!

Got it! Thank you very much, it will be a great help in learning about the governor and rack systems.

Good idea. I hadn't thought of getting one just to disassemble it. Pictures of the process?

I've got a spare IP for a 240D as well. I pulled it out of a yard a few years ago but forgot to check the year on the donor car(123). Was the same injector pump used on all 240D engines from '77 - '83 ?

Thanks

Should be unless one was a euro import (gray market). The 76 and earlier W115 models use a different pump.

I got it all clean and ready to go. Looks like internally its identical to the 617A pump minus an ALDA and rack damper.

Put an ALDA in place of the ADA, turn up the full load adjustment and you could have a full turbo 616 pump.

I learned quite a bit from this. The turbo-non-turbo governor is the same and the ADA can work the same way as an ALDA.

Replacing the shutoff actuator turns out to be very simple. Nowhere near the precise/risky job some, including myself, have made it out to be.

The full load setting on this pump limited the fuel rack to 68% of it's total possible travel distance. In other words, a 616 modified with a turbo could possibly hit 80-90hp at the flywheel with the limiter removed.

neat internal pictures... care to draw some arrows to the items you are referring to? it'd be neat to know what a limiter looks like, or where that shutoff actuator would go... thanks!

I second the opinion about arrows. I'm ignorant about the internals of IP's.

The 616 used in vans has higher horsepower output and higher rpm limits I think, with a different IP. Any idea what changes in the IP to accomplish this?

Thanks. It's nice to be able to get a look at these things without having to tear my car apart to do it.

The Schuman SuperTurbo Forum has much more info and many threads on this subject.
The picture that outlines the 617 MW governor full load adjustment. No idle compensation is required unless you adjust the torque control or possibly the high idle screw.

Translation for the screws:
High Idle = Max Speed (Also has an effect on the governing function of the idle/power mechanicals...Adjustment not recommended)
Idle Coarse Adj. = Sets the idle speed in combination with the outter (on linkage idle screw. Adjustment not recommended)
Full Load = Sets the max rack travel. (Outter nut must be retightened after adjustment.)
Idle Bump Stop = Maintains greater unloading spring pressure (Adjustment Not recommended)
Torque Control = Limits rack travel with increased RPM (Helps prevent smoke Adjustment not recommended)
Full Fuel Startup Lockout = Allows full fuel for start but not run (Adjustment HIGHLY not recommended)
Max Stop = Prevents linkage from forcing inner linkage past set point
Idle Screw = sets fine idle speed
