I put a fast 1500 miles on the 85
This is the first out of town run I have made on "Old Blue". I left Monday morning to visit my brother who is in the process of installing the landing lights on the new runway at Dulles, in the DC area. So,I did change the oil to Mobil 1 syn 5-40 before I left. I was really worried that it might not hold it, but it did very well, and hard to believe , it actually seems to leak less. So, no oil consumption and no leaking, I think that is very good. It seems to run out very well at 3300/3500 RPM and where I could do that without upsetting the Highway patrol, that is where I ran it. Cruise control would work for a couple of miles, and then it would start jerking. I think that 3300 RPM is right at 77 mph. Fuel mileage wasn't great, figures out at about 25 MPG. Oh, and just before I left, I pulled the drivers front seat and put in those two foam rubber supports. I'm a big size, 6'7" and 280 and that really helps keep the comfort level up on those 10 hour rides. Darn, but I didn't think I would have to pull that seat all the way apart to get those supports in there. I ran I-68 in Maryland on the way in. Man, that road does have some real fine hills on it. On a couple occasions, I let it run up around 4300 RPM in S range to keep up with the traffic. Again very smooth, and temp never off the normal mark. But I wasn't using the AC either. We had a very cold morning on Thursday and didn't use the block heater. But with that Mobil 1, it fired up like on a hot summer day. Really didn't even hear the starter, it was that fast, though I gave it an extra long glow. No, it's not the town car and I love the power that car has. But this little car runs and handles so well, it is a delight.
