Firstly, can i just support the engine with the oil pan while i work on the mounts?

Secondly, is there more to this system then just the motor mounts? Is there an engine shock absorber(s)? Does it have mounts that need to be replaced? I am going to go through and replace everything while im doing this.

********az lists a front 'T' mount under engine mounts for an '85 300D. I have never heard of such a thing. I dont see it on fastlane so i'm a little suspicious if it really exists.

What is the "T" mount & where does it go. I bought everything, says anti-vibration T-mount. Is there one on an 84 300D?

Thnx,
D

It isn't on a '84 300D - I think it is just an early pre-1980ish 240 thang...

...if I remember rightly there's a bit on it in the FSM

The turbodiesels do not have the T-mount.

How do you get the engine shock out?

Big day today. Changed the oil cooler lines, put in a new oil filter housing gasket, replaced right side tranny line that I have had a sleeve on for the past two years (wore through at oil pan bracket) and changed oil the pan gasket.

I had the engine jacked up to get the old oil cooler lines out and the new ones in. I saw that the left side engine shock top mount was pretty shot, so I pulled it out and then tried to get the shock out. It is only connected a the bottom now. When I turn the bolt on the bottom, the threaded shaft spins. I tried locking down the shaft from the top with a vice grips, but it did not make any difference. Then I grabbed the shock body with a vice grips to hold it in place, but the threaded shaft still spins when I turn the bottom nut. I do not understand what is going on here and do not see what else I can do to get the bottom nut off. Can anyone fill me in on what is going on and what I can do to get the shock out?

if u keep the 2x4 or 4x4 on the vertical edge of the pan and across as much of the surface as possible u will spread the load out as much as possible over the strongest part of the pan...iv done it 2 time now...once last night lol ........if u search through u will find my threads from last week when i was asking all the same questions....great links and post on there.
i highly recommend filling the engine mounts , so they last longer
