Unhappy starting problems!

i recently replaced the glow plugs, relay and battery in my 1981 300TD... before it was not starting, the relay light would not come on at all. Now the relay light comes on strong... when i try to start the car, it cranks and cranks... its tries to turn over but just cant... i made sure i had fuel and oil in the car. are there any suggestions? am i doing something wrong? Thanks for any help anyone could offer!

Fuel filters? Did you have the fuel system open? If so, did you prime/bleed it?

When you say "turn over" what do you mean? Does the engine spin?

Would it crank before the work was done?

Try loosening some of the furl injection hard line/tubing nuts at the injectors and see if you are getting fuel spurting out from under them when you try to start. This will verify that you are getting fuel to the injectors (and at the same time bleed of any air that might be trapped in the hard lines).
You also might want to look and see if while you did the glow plug change you did not pull out any vacuum lines or other hoses or electrical connections. With out realizing it leaned on a vacuum line while doing an oil filter change and broke off a plastic connector and did not find out until my car would not shutoff.
