You are right. I'm reading/indicating +14.5. Thanks for the correction. Still working through troubleshooting why it is falling off. I've started another thread on it.

Hi all, I am hoping to perform this swap as well. I've been struggling to source an appropriate actuator, but think I might have an option in this part: https://www.amazon.com/Kinugawa-Adjustable-Turbocharger-Actuator-Garrett/dp/B078X9D47V.

I'll likely be ordering it and giving it a shot, will update if this does work.

Hey all, I was able to successfully complete the swap using the actuator I linked above. It was a plug and play fit, though I did need to specify a 130mm length rod from the supplier to get the spacing correct. With my boost gauge I am reading at a shade under 15 psi, which seems to align with the 1 bar specification of the wastegate spring. This wastegate does have the option to change out the springs for a lower pressure, so if one wants to go to 0.8 bar or ~12 psi they should be able to.

Personally, I cannot believe the difference this swap made. I was running 0-60 in the low 20s and every shift sounded like someone had dropped a bag of hammers in my backseat. With the swap, I'm in the 14s range to 60 and shifts have become quite smooth. Dropping in new injectors and tuning the alda this week in the hopes on shaving another second or two off, and will also be attempting to get the shift pressure dialed in now that I seem to be making the right power and have bypassed the old EGR/wastegate rats nest.

I'll try to get a better write up together later this week and include better links for any wishing to replicate!

Wow, great! I was still considering which waste gate to buy, and now I have an answer. I am going to do this too, but it might be a month or 2 until I get to it. It is pretty cold and snowy out there.
I have been disconnecting and replacing vacuum lines. I think I solved a number of leaks. Also first I plan on replacing the crankshaft seal.
Thank you!

Just heard from ATP Turbo today, 01.24.2022, they have an Alternate part for 433489-12, you can find it here:
https://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ATP-WGT-137&Store_Code=tp

FYI I did this swap years ago and now the wastegate is stuck open. Hopefully Liquid Wrench and some elbow grease will do the trick once the weather warms up.

Anyway, I looked on the ATP site and they now show an alternative to 433489-12. It is ATP-WGT-137. So hoping this might be helpful to anyone wanting to do the swap but having a hard time finding the right actuator.

Great, once I finish the front crank seal, I'm on to this project.

Tied WG to vacuum source to hold it closed and can only get 8 psi. Odd...
I too am interested in the 603.971 wastegate. Can the same part number as has been mentioned for the 602 be used on the 603? I think my understanding from reading this thread is that then603 unit is larger.

What should be used for 3.5L W140 engines?

Thanks!

Can the ATP pressure wastegate actuator be swapped without removing the turbo? (w124 om602). Just ordered from ATP today.
I'll review this thread in entirety before it arrives... Any advice definitely welcome!

I'll let you all know how it goes...

Just wanted to add a few bits…

To begin with, I added a boost gauge where the Alda connects to the intake and used a hand vacuum pump on the wastegate and it held vacuum perfectly. Took it for a test drive and the beast was awakened! Boost came on quick and the engine gave a nice growl I wasn’t expecting. I had to let off the throttle as boost quickly got into the 20s so I couldn’t get a 0-60 time.

Also I’m diggin into the thread deeper now and looks like I can swap without removing the turbo.

Btw I bought this ‘93 300d last summer for cheap. 187k on the odometer. Was not driven much in the last few years but I could tell it was a solid very well maintained benz. All service records included and it turns out it was a victim of the defective timing chain issue and in ‘99 the chain broke and a factory long block manufactured in ‘96 was installed so it only has 120k on it. Yippee!

Yes...no need to remove turbo. I recall it being a bit awkward/frustrating getting at things from underneath, but certainly doable.

Smile GOOD NEWS FOLKS!! ATPTurbo ATP-WGT-137 kit for 300D installed on OM602 with NO MODS!!

That's right NO MODS!
I didn't realize it at first but the ATPTurbo actuator rod tip has an extender on it and if you remove it then it will fit on the OM602 perfectly, no cutting the rod, no adding threads etc... Boost is 3-6 lbs all the time unless my foot is not on the gas peddle, and when I nail it boost quickly builds to 13 PSI and stays there as long as I keep my foot down.

I performed the removal and install from the top by removing the passenger side fire wall which made it pretty easy. I tapped into pressure using the test port on the intake manifold with a M10 1.0 barb hose fitting and some high heat silicone tubing. Easy to run the hose from that location so don't let that steer you away. Just buy 5ft and trim as needed.

So happy to rip out all the vacuum crap on the passenger side and both the flapper and EGR are now inoperable because the vacuum lines are removed.

Note my transmission shifted just a tad hard before and now it actually flares a bit when I nail it so my 0-60 times were impacted. Best I got was 17 seconds. However I wont try to dial that in yet because I have a spare transmission I'll be swapping out soon due to worn out reverse clutches.

Thanks to everyone on this thread.
Jim

PS I noticed oil in front of my turbo intake and confirmed its the PCV breather hose not the turbo. Unfortunately from what I have seen on youtube the issue is inside the valve cover and its "not serviceable" so not sure what I can do to fix it. I am sure this is a significant source for the goop that builds in the intake manifold. Probably way more than the EGR side.

You could install a catch can but don't reduce the size of the current breather hose or your sump will go positive pressure under max load.

Thanks dieselbenz1 I’ll check into that. I found a few on Amazon to chose from. I’ll be installing one soon because it looks pretty clear to me the PCV system is the source of gunk in the intake system of these engines. For $20-30 bucks it’s a no brainer and since my EGR is no longer hooked up I’m sure my little OM602 will be happy to breath clean air and last a few more decades.
