Leaking rear window 300sd w126
I have my interior dismantled for cleaning and when I was working in it during the rain I found water dripping down the "pillar" (?) in the back, where the backseat seatbelts twist back into. its the rear window seal. Crap. What do I do now? I was thinking of getting some black caulking and just going over the whole thing but then I realized that I'm trying to restore this car, and that'd look like crap. Plus, the rubber is all cracked to hell anyway. Has anyone tried caulking it? Id probably do so but I cant even lift the rubber up to put caulking under it, it would just snap. I found a window seal on ******** for 50 bucks, is this something I could do myself? Ive heard the windshield needs to be done by the pro's, but the rear is easier. What are your thoughts? Im wondering, do I just pull the seal out and carefully take the window with it, replace the window and seal, and stick it back in? Do I need a special glue? How hard is it to get the rear windshield out without breaking it?

It's more of a PIA than hard. I was replacing rear glass that had a delamination problem so wasn't concerned about breaking rear glass - and it didn't break. The dealer sold me the MB Glass sealing compound but didn't find it had any special properties other than the MB Logo. The toughest part I experienced was putting the new glass back in. That took us several tries.
Enlist a partner to help you. Not being a pro glass installer I found it awkward handling a large piece of glass.

Is the seal dry-rotted or non-pliable? If it seems to still be pretty flexible, just a touch of the proper (glass) sealant might do the trick. After watching the glass shop do my windshield, I'm convinced that the front is actually easier but does require a couple of inexpensive specialized tools.
