You are implying that you have the car. If so, check the VIN on the car and run it.

Actually, it sounds to me like the seller called or emailed the VIN to winmutt. In any case, EPC says "Invalid model/model designation." Comparing this VIN to my three, the problem has to be the "A6CB" part; the rest is like my 1985 300D except for the last 6 digits (of course).

I bought (paid deposit) the car on CL for $250. Tranny is toast and so is body/int but the engine is a fairly low mileage swap and hey maybe it has some decent axles . The car is in Macon about an hour south and I have yet to see it. Owner seems pretty legit, college kid who is responsive to the emails. Hoping to tow it home.

My boss got a carfax for the year so I am gonna have him run the VIN and see whats in it. Interesting that the EPC says bad model.

Anyone got something else I can plug into "A6CB"

Your VIN format is correct, I've successfully put similar VINs into it that have worked. Example: WDBAB33A8CB015342

MB probably just "lost" that particular one from their records.

Hey..it's the guy you're getting the car from...

You should be pleased with the axles. They are still in very good shape as I recall. Actually, if you look into the tranny issue, might be an easy fix. Oh, and by the way, not everyone living in Athens is a college student!

This is the correct number according to the tag registration form from Athens Clarke County Georgia tag office. We are both in Georgia so it should not be a problem.

Ya I am not worried, the body is gonna go the crusher after I strip it. Mostly got it for the engine and spare automatic trans.

The stock piling has begun.

Same thing here

I posted this on another thread in the tech support forum. Maybe someone here has some insight.

My 82 300D Turbo has the VIN WDBAB33A2CB000125. I'm sure it's correct and it was on the title belonging to the original owner when I bought the car. The funny thing is that everywhere I have an opportunity to use the VIN it comes back unrecognized. I subscribed to the online EPC from www.startekinfo.com and it doesn't recognize the VIN. I tried to Russian site and they claim it's invalid also.
I did send an email via the classic center on the Mercedes Benz web site and got a short reply back stating that the chassis number is 123133.12.00012. Does that mean I have the 12th 300D US turbo diesel? Anyone have an idea where I can get look this up or should I pay the $25.00 to the classic center for one of those reproduction window stickers?
