Hey Sash -
Hope you're not getting too much snow over on the East side - did you measure your vacuum at the line between the vacuum pump and brake booster? How much are you getting? Do you still have a shut-off problem?

First step would be to test the pump. If there's no pull, you have several options. 1. Buy a rebuild kit..I'm sure mercedes shop sells them...or maybe try dieselgiant.com or 2. buy and install new pump. But first test your pump...buy a vacuum guage at autozone...cheap. It takes 5 mins.

trace the lines to see if you can find reason your car has low vacuum. I'm only assuming you know its low because vacuum-powered accesories aren't functioning properly? I'm not presently able to think of another way to know if you aren't at proper vacuum without a guage....
anyway like someone else said as soon as you test the right places you'll know exactly what to do as far as what you have to replace. Its just a matter of you getting under your hood and going through the process. Check your rubber cap on the modulator valve on the tranny (driver's side) to see if it's in good condition as some vacuum may be escaping from a cracked cap. Go through and make sure you have dashpots in the right places by using this forum to get at the vacuum diagrams. They're self-explanitory if you have some common sense. Obviously check the 3-way\4-way "splitters" to make sure the rubber is still good. Also if you have to shut your car off under the hood it could just be a simple vacuum connection problem. It doesn't mean that your vacuum is low. Good Luck.
