Looks like it could be a decent car, its worth $5k-$7k. To many miles to really comand the big money, and it's far from perfect.

Its a very very very nice W116 example (one of the nicest I've ever seen) but the guy's ad and claims are still rediculous.

Hatterasguy 02-19-2008 03:35 PM

Maybe he copied an add from someone selling a 6.9?:D

It's decent based on the photos, it might get $10K with the right bidders but not much more. It would be a pretty good deal for $5-7K.

Super Diesel

The best I read on craigslist here was a guy advertising his 300 SuperDiesel Turbo. Yep, that's 300SD to the rest of us. :D

His feedback ain't so hot either. There is enough negative there to be a RED flag for me if I was interested in it.

I bought mine on Ebay back in November with 111k miles for $5900. It was local to me so I saw it before bidding. It's in as good a condition as that example, based on what I see in the pictures.
Is the serious bidder going to be taken in by all the BS??

Yes, but that tear, makes the car even MORE one of a kind and rare. After all, it's likely the only with that exact tear, of which is of that exact length/width/depth, in that exact spot, on that exact seat....

I'll offer him 50k, just because of the ultra rare tear in the seat..lol :D

If I get "laser cut keys" for my "D" will it raise the value:confused:.
The pics show a very nice looking W116, but there is enough
BS in that ad to steer me away. I would not bid on it.

Laser cut keys...way back in 1980..?

Those things were ground out on the same machine VW used to make theirs back then. The key making technology wasn't that advanced in 1980.

"Laser" anything, was hard to find, and even out the realm of Mercedes at the time.

The ad is a joke, so is the seller. I wouldn't buy that thing no matter what he told me.

It looks to be a pretty nice example assuming the mechanicals are in order. But based on what he had posted on another thread it looks like he's hoping to get something north of $10k for it. That would seem very optimistic to me but it is "museum quality" so you never know. :)

BTW my 80 300SD did not have a passenger side mirror when I assumed ownership 8 years ago. I pulled one off of a 450 SEL at the the junkyard and slapped it on mine.

Museum quality does not mean anything. Whenever I see that I think of all the cars with flat tires and torn upholstery I have seen in Museums, not to mention what sittting does to all the mechanical stuff.

Don't make fun of him. He has one leg shorter than the other. Stop it! Stop staring!

Well, at least he didn't refer to the car as a 300 S.T.D. :)

jkoebel 02-25-2008 12:41 AM

It is a nice looking car. Worth $11k, no -- but I'd love to own it.

Looks like its getting a new A/C.

Ether 02-25-2008 10:37 AM

Wow, winning bid of over $11k.
