I only got a look at the interior. The exterior is perfectly straight sans the hail damage to the roof, trunk lid and 3 doors. He's in process on those and reshooting the car. It's completely stripped. I've seen Jurgen's work. We sent a 2008 S6 to him that was badly damaged. You'd be hard pressed to ever know it was hit. We're going to talk numbers shortly but I told him I'l reserve my final decision until he's done and I drive it. It looks good so far..

Dont see how it would be even as fast as 87 300d turbo, being that its heavier and less powerful. Sizewise its same as older 124 sedans.

Much better looking (more updated) for sure.

Sounds great if the miles are right though !

I'm sure he was talking about W123/W126 turbodiesels. Yes the '87 Turbo is more powerful than a NA OM606.

The 87 was the fastest diesel made until the 1998 E300D. Turbo chargers do that to diesels.:D

Its down 50hp but its a solid motor, in a solid car, with a solid trans. I really like the updated later W124's styling. All in all its a pretty hard package to fault.

If you want the same car, but with balls get an E420. You will lose about 10mpg which will be offset by the increased cost of diesel over premium. So the cost is very similer and you get over twice the power.

You meant 50 ft-lbs difference, not hp. It's actually 45 to be exact.

Re. the E420, the loss of mileage might be more offset by the lower purchase cost than the difference in fuel prices. Diesel MB's command a significantly higher purchase premium over their more common gasoline siblings.

One thing I don't like about the late W124's is the missing glove compartment box due to the passenger side airbag as the dash was not originally designed to have an airbag.

Issues with the 95' E300D

Leaking evaporator coil (been there done that, wouldn't wish that job on my worst enemy)
Glow plugs that get stuck in the head and snap off when you try to remove them. (Ours is running on 5 glow plugs till I figure out what I want to do about it)
Bad engine wiring harness (Insulation on the wires falls off. Easy fix, but I think it was $300 for the harness)


Excellent highway cruiser with good gas mileage. We get 28-32mpg. Could really use a turbo though.

The aforementioned issues in previous posts are the same ones that I heard while researching a '95 E300D. I finally decided that there will be issues with any car, no matter what car I buy, and the '95 was the same or better than other cars that I was considering.

I forgot to mention in my previous post that I recently had the fuel shut-off knob replaced on the top of my fuel filter housing. Fuel was slightly weeping around the stem of the shut-off knob. (Enough to make a stink.) I didn't have my service manual at that point so I had the dealer do it. The job was about $240 for parts and labor.

In the event of the glow plug breaking, how do you get it out?

Remove head and send to the CNC shop? Any tricks to preventing all this? Heat, tap hammer, ect... ?

Seems like a great vehicle with only "minor" problems...but sometimes the minor stuff can be a pain.

If I owned a 606 I would wait for the GP's to fail, but after the first battle I would buy a reamer and remove and ream them every year. Carbon doesn't build up that fast, so they should never get stuck again.

but i'm not sure if it will work with this engine.

An independent Mercedes mechanic snapped off the one in my vehicle, but I removed the remaining plugs. I found a combination of Kroil and biodiesel did a great job of breaking up the carbon so that I could remove them.

After the plugs were out, biodiesel on a Qtip cleaned all the carbon out of the head. Did such a good job, I was able to thread the new plugs in by hand (hand only, not even a socket) all the way in till it seated.

I guess Hatterasguy has a good idea, but that huge intake manifold is a pain to remove each time.

Sometimes you can remove the injector and grab the broken bit with a flex tool. To be able to do this you also need a powerful light source into the chamber. I have used this method on a few diesels, but never on an MB.
