Tell me about the 1995 300D Non Turbo...
 

Jurgen the German was just here and I showed him the rust on my car as he's "THE" body man. As I suspected, it's not worth getting into it. He said it's most likely going to be both full rockers and possible floor repair once he gets into it. As well as that "rail" being rusty. HE made me an offer, so to speak.

He has a 95 300D non turbo with 35,000 miles. His own car. He's had it for 3 years. He's currently taking care of hail damage to the roof, hood and doors and repainting the entire car Black Opal. He told me to come take a look at it but will be at least a month before he's done.. What should I look for as I'm not well versed on the newer diesels...

Im pretty sure the 95 is non turbo. So you wont have the performance youd want from a mid nineties diesel, but im sure it will probably kick ass on a 300d turbo from the eighties. Thats all i know really, their NA cars so expect that. Expect very decent fuel mileage becuase of that

Search 606.910; lots of recent comparisions here. Last year of the W124. Still had harness issues. Engine is good; typical 606 oring fuel leaks and the 95 has sticky EGR and Resonnance flap issues that affect performance.

It'll perform similar to your older turbo, get better mpg's and be much nicer to drive. At 35k miles it hasnt been driven much; expect to deal with fuel leaks and DV's when it gets driven more.

A 13 year old car with only 35,000 miles?

Its either clocked or its going to be worn out. Unless its silly cheap I'd stay away.

Look for extensive maintenance records documenting the mileage. If none are available, assume the mileage is false.

I like the idea of the 19995 E300....dependable W124 chassis with a four valve oil burning engine.

Going to go look at it tomorrow on my lunch hour to get an idea of what condition it's in. One of the techs got one from the same guy for his sister last year with 48,000 miles - white/gray over palomino. It's in fantastic shape.All he's done to it is the glow plug relay and tie rods.. And he's one of my former-Benz techs...

If you don't like the tires and wheels on it don't worry about it. I think you already have that one covered......;)
If the miles are verifiable, it sounds like a nice car to own.

I think that even with th rust I have, the 126 (body anyway)has another 2 years at least in it.The power train has another few hundred thousand. I'm going to clean it up and maybe try to sell it if I like what I see tomorrow. If it seems sound and the wheels & tires are passable, I'll sell the 126 with the new wheels & tires and the E-codes on it..

you might miss your 126. the 124 is much more cozy with the passengers given the size difference. The ride is a bit 'cozier' too. It's really a question of religion though. ;)

Although still trying to square away some engine issues, the 95 is a great car. Rides like a 4 door go cart, airbag safety, and decent pep from the 606.910 n/a 6 cyl. Looks smaller than the 126 inside, for sure.

I rarely haul passengers anyway so the size isn't really going to impact me. It's usually only myself, my "darling dearest, sweet heart, baby cakes, thorn of my side, wince of my eye, pain of my ass, ERR,UM, I mean THE LOVE OF MY LIFE" :D and the Gorilla (my dog)

Ooooh 35k mile E300D, drool. The later W124's were nice, and the 606 is sweet as any I6. A turbo would make the car perfect.

What was it owned by an old person?

I just bought a '95 E300D with only 55K. So far, I have put a couple of thousand on it and am very pleased with it. It performs better than I expected. Fuel mileage has been 30-34 mpg. It is a really solid car that can pick up its skirts and rev to 5,500 rpm, if provoked. A W124 won't handle like a BMW, but I must say that I am pleasantly surprised with its abilities.
