How good are the new Diesels?

It has been some time sence I posted here. I guess my car has been OK thanks to some of you. I would like to know if anyone has experance with the new diesels? Mine is a 1999 and it has been very nice but it is closing in on 200,000 miles so I have been thinking about buying a 2005 or newer. One of my friends would like the one I have now so I could still keep track of it and maybe even still service it. The newer cars seem real nice but I just do not know much about them. Thanks for any information you guys may have.

Not much experience with the newer engines themselves but the cars as a whole, the 124 Chassis is the last Benz I'd own. I spent 4 years working for a Benz dealer - 2000 to 2004. The 210 Chassis were relatively bulletproof except for:
a/c leaks, dash cracking in the passenger side air bag perforation,BAS/ESP issues - usually the brake light switch. The 2003-newer ones had/have lots of electrical/electronic issues as well. But to be fair, I was next to a new E320 BlueTech a few days ago and the engine was quieter than the 2.0T A4 I was driving....

The car you are currently driving could easily be a reliable/good car for another 150k + if you keep it well maintained. There are people on here with nearly 400k on the 606 engine with no issues.

The new diesels are unbelievable. They're rocketships and at the same time deliver better fuel mileage than the old, slow ones.

I consider them the most technologically advanced engines currently for sale in the USA.

Wait 'til the BMW diesels arrive--30-40 more horsepower from same displacement as the Mercedes V6.

I think I would agree.

I saw one of the new 2008 Mercedes Benz E350 Bluetec diesels at the San Franciso International
Autoshow right after Thanksgiving.

I was told 28 very lucky Californians will have the opportunity to LEASE ONLY one of them, as part of a Mercedes Benz program to judge consumer acceptance.

About a month later the Mercedes Benz dealer in Fremont called me on the phone, wanting me to test drive and buy one of their new cars, and when I asked about the California Bluetec program, they knew nothing about it.

Nothing.

And of course, they did not have any on their lot. Not one.

Their 0-60 time is about 7.0 - Same as my 1991 560SEC. Amazing!!

My 2005 CDI has 102k on it. Glow plugs have recently been replaced. It only does about 40 mpg on the road. A real fuel hog.
