When bad mounts go worse . . .

In December, I purchase a 1983 300SD which needed some 'TLC'.

The previous owner had obviously let the car go some. I recently went to replace the engine mount on the drivers side. The mount had almost completely desintegrated (presumably from a leaky primer pump). These pics show what was underneath (beware, for mature views only)

If I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing, your mount points are busted?

I'd say pound it back as much you can and weld it up real nice like. Or maybe take it to someone who can weld.

Yep, that is the mount point (the place where the mount used to sit on the frame) that is collapsed in.

Plan to fix is to push into place. Weld it up. Then I am going to weld another piece of metal over the top of it for extra strength.

I plan to take pics when it is done.

What type of brand would I need to stay away from?

When I bought the car, the upper oil cooler line was sliced. I replaced the lines (because I had the time), but the engine mounts were back ordered. (Yeah, I know, little bit of rework). I needed to get the car out of the street so fixing the oil cooler lines was a priority.

- Oil cooler lines fixed.
- Primer Pump (fuel) fixed.
- Fuel line going to and from the primary fuel filter replaced (it had been replaced before with GAS hose by previous owner)
- Engine Mounts/Eng Shock Replacement - In work
