transmission vacuum valve
My mechanic said that the transmission vacuum valve(not sure if this is the correct name of the value) is broken on my 84 300D turbo. It is located on the front of the passinger side block. Could this be the problem causing the door locks to not work, and is it difficult to replace? Any help or suggestions would be appreceiated.
Thanks! |

If he means your vacuum pump, it's not too hard to replace. Need to have a 5mm allen socket as the only special tool. They can be rebuilt, but I have yet to do so. It would definitely cause the door locks to not work, car to not shut off, trans to shift very hard, and your brakes to not work so well. Vacuum does a lot in these.

If he's referring to the vacuum control valve, it's located on the top of the IP on the driver's side of the engine. It affects the transmission shift characteristics and, when it fails, the shifts usually get too firm.
The failure of this valve doesn't usually affect the door locks if the proper restrictors are in place. |

Is he talking about the thermal vacuum valve? A vacuum switch with 2 vacuum lines going to it? If that's it, just plug the line and be done with it.

It only controls the EGR. The line from the black box can be disconnected from the switch and plugged. |
