Post Barn find!

A friend of mine was selling a patch of land (about 60 acres) and an older farm that resides on it. What did he find in one of the barns, if not a nice W108 (280SE)! It had sat there for 20-odd years, has some rear end damage but otherwise it's complete and .. RUST-FREE! (I'd suspect most of you haven't been in Sweden but finding a 20 year old car here, without rust, is to be considered a MIRACLE). Now comes the best part, I got it for free..!

I'll strip this car of everything usable (doors, front fenders, trunk lid, all chrome parts, interior) and swap them on my quite rusty W108 300D.
Have had thoughts about painting the 300D black, what do you think? It's a real classy color on the W108's.

Pictured below with the trusty Mercedes transporter we have at the shop.

Umm, wouldnt it be more easy and practical to register this barn find and swap the engine outa yer bucket of rust into it? Or even build another 108 diesel 300 conversion and make some money in the process.

One could think so, but no it wouldn't.
This new car has some rear end damage, possibly even structural damage underneath the sheet metal. The paint is not good enough even for a daily driver, so I'd have to respray it anyway.
It is currently registered as a gasoline powered car (which it is since it has the original 280SE engine), re-registering it as a diesel would cost additional buckazoids.
It's not that hard to swap the parts, most of them are just bolt off/bolt on. The W108 300D, which I intend to repair, is quite rusty but only on easily replacable parts. Like fenders, doors, trunk lid. The whole undercarriage is already fixed by the bloke that I bought the car from Only the fun stuff left!

What he said. You can't give away a rust free W108 in California, but that truck...

I don't know about mileage, it's not really an issue since it's used quite sparsely.
It is, however, equipped with a OM616 and 4-speed manual, top speed about 55mph when unloaded, favorable wind conditions and home sickness.
Very handy truck but that W108 is really pushing it's limits..
