Has aaaanybody changed the shifter bushing?

Has anyone replaced the shifter bushing on the inside of the car, for a W124? Mine's a 1991 300d. I replaced the bushing under the car last year, and posted a DIY on it, but now have to find out how to do the one at the shifter from the inside of the car.

You can click on this link to see a photo...

At points 1+2, the screws for the black thing, they don't seem to do anything. The black piece still won't move, and maybe it doesn't need to be moved out of the way anyways. At points 3 and 4, to the right of the shifter, looks like those would have to come out. #5 shows the wire cluster that seems to be TIGHTLY attached to that area. Looks like it wouldn't budge a millimeter even if I were to release the cable holder.

Thanks,

Jeff

I removed the shifter from my 124 parts car. Once the wood is removed, the shifter mounting bolts are visible, remove them and you can lift the shifter assembly (attached) up far enough to service the bushings.

LOL, if you will change to an early 1980's 123 and ask that someone can probably help you...
If you want to stand out in the crowd by having a rare model you may have this kind of problem....

This is a job I would like to address this summer and hope to get some information also. On my 84 300D, when I am in S and shifting back to D, I have to play with the shifter a little to get it back there. It feels loose and I suspect this is a bushing problem. I assume it is a simple fix.

Do you people have any shop manuals for your cars ?
If not it looks like someone needs to just attack the console and see what it looks like in there... if you have a way check to see if you can reach it from underneath first though...

Umm, nope, not simple to fix. See my post on the DIY forum. Mine is for the
lower bushing on the W124, the DIY post beneath mine is from someone else with a W123 I think, for the top bushing.

Thanks, Jeff. I'll check it out. It will be good to know what I am getting into.

Just did the four bushings on my SL last week. I'm slooooow as heck, but the job wasn't bad using the above mentioned posts to refer to. Pressed the new bushings in using my bench vise, a 19mm socket on one side and a quarter on the other.
