82 sd vacuum pump

My vacuum pump went out and my mechanic tells me that its the kind that cannot be rebuilt. Does anyone have a link to where I might find one for a decent price? Used or new.

The one attached to the engine, or the one in the trunk?

The prices I got from the dealer have been around 350 for a new one!Not a dealer but a Benz repair shop.

If it's the one in the trunk go to a junk yard and pull one yourself. If it's the one bolted to the front of the engine do the following:

1) Fire your machanic.
2) Use the search function on this diesel page for "vacuum pump rebuild".
3) Print out the instructions.
4) Call Phil, order the rebuild kit.
5) Spend a couple of "quality time" hours with the Benz.
6) Enjoy the rebuilt pump with a smile at the money you just saved.
7) Frown as you put the money you just saved into the fuel tank.

This is not really that hard, just kind of time consuming. I did mine in a couple of hours. These diesels are really straight forward to work on. Good Luck, keep posting.

See if any of the info helps, there is at least 2 types of Vacuum pumps. It might be a good idea to identify which type you have before you start ordering Vacuum Pump Rebuild Kits. The vacuum/pneumatic system is in with the Brake Booster stuff.
