Viton Diesel Return Fuel Line Problem

Okay, so I just replaced my old braided diesel return lines with some new "state of the art" viton fuel return lines. I thought that I was VERY careful when I cut it because this stuff splits like crazy if it's not cut properly. Anyway as you probably have guessed by now, the fuel lines split right where I attached them to the fuel injectors. I was thinking I could just put a little bit of hose repair tape around the end of the hose to kind of act like a "hose clamp" of sorts.

Do you all have any tricks which could help prevent this, or should I just buy some of the old fashioned braided fuel line which seems to work quite well and isn't as finicky as the viton.
