While loosening the ac lines going through the bulkhead to the expansion valve, I managed to dislodge the rubber dam that keeps them snug and keeps engine sounds muffled. Got too late to fix that last night, so I drove my normal commute today listening to every nuance of a 617 as it deals with hills and other challenges. I know this is weird, but I actually was intrigued with the sounds my 617 was making - not too loud to hear the radio, but direct feedback for what I was requesting of it. I always liked the sound of these older diesels, but now I don't have to roll the window down or get out of the car.

Now if I don't have an exhaust leak, maybe I'll 'fix' this and maybe I won't. The 617 does sound sweet!
