Remove trans without pulling engine? 76 300D 115
the repair manual states that the transmission and engine must be pulled as a unit. others say that trans can be pulled out from underneath without pulling the engine, which I am trying to do. I have successfully removed section of the drive shaft, all fluid lines and all but one of the bolts on the transmission (the one just above the starter motor, 10mL hex). Is it possible to remove this bolt? I'm stuck. did I get over my head, will I have to have it towed to a repair shop? I am hoping to do this myself but never exchanged a transmission before

It's indeed possible to pull only the transmission, that's the way I did my trial fits during my conversion project. That bolt is rather difficult (understatement) to reach. I remember making a simple two-piece tool out of a 10mm hex bit and a 10mm open-ended wrench, with that I could reach the bolt from the engine compartment. Not sure if this can be done on a W115 but I think so.
If you already pulled the other bolts there might be unnecessary tension on this last one, so put two or three bolts back on and try again with the starter bolt.
