Lifetime warranty on engine/turbo 85 Ca Spec 300TD
Hi everybody,
I am currently selling a very nice 1985 300TD on ebay. I have owned 123's for years and am a huge fan. I was very surprised when a fellow ebayer emailed me this info- " little background to this information, MB had a class action suit filed back in the eighties, regarding the diesels not passing CA emissions. The court upheld the plaintiffs and said that MB had to warranty the motor for the life of the car. This has included the turbo. Ours, I bought on a salvage title from a junk yard because it wouldn't accelerate etc. Kieth Brooks, owner of European auto service, told us to take it to the dealership to replace the turbo. We did and there was no charge. Another couple here in Tucson had a moter go out on them, and inquired about payment options with the dealership, and they were informed there would be no charge, because it was a CA model. I think most would rather you not know about these things, and most of the cars from that era have gone by the wayside, but for those of us still driving the old beauties, it is great information" I called Mercedes this am and they claim to have never hard anything about this. I am so confused. Has anyone heard of this? Could he have misunderstood the trap oxidizer recall??? If anyone has any information, that would be great. I feel like a shmuck as I actually added this info to my description without verifying it. I have already had someone email me and accuse me of fabricating this in order to sell the wagon. Yikes, that's the last thing I wanted! Is there a logical explaination??? Thank you in advance!!!! Best regards, Sabina |
