Lighter parts?
I know that when Mercedes went to the w126 body they lightened some of the parts such as going to the aluminum hood and trunk.
I was wondering if in the later years of the w126 they lightened any other parts that would fit the earlier cars? could some take a scale with them the next time they go to the junk yard?

I believe only the diesel 126 got an aluminum hood, the gassers used steel hoods, I could be wrong but a magnet will surely prove (or disprove) that
I can't think of anything else that was lightened. you could live dangerously and replace the full size spare tire with a skinny one

I just junked my '91 SDL, steel hood and trunk. Late as they get.
I do remember the aluminum hood going on the SL when they went to the 3.8L from the 4.5L.
