Junkyard Alert Thread?
So, we a have an EBay alert sticky and a Craig's List alert sticky. I'm wondering if others see any value in possibly creating a junkyard alert. That way when folks head out to various yards looking for parts and find some old MBs sitting around, they can post for others who might be interested in that particular model. On the surface it seems like it might be complicated by distance from yards (I live in MO and someone posts about a '90s 124 sitting in a yard somewhere in CA), but as long everyone posted the yard name and its location (phone # would be great too) then others could probably easily find the contact info. A lot of yards have their own websites now too.
As an example, I went to Pick-n-Pull in St. Louis last week hoping to find a part for my car. The only MB on the lot was an '85 190 - doesn't do me much good, but could have the part that someone else is looking for. It would be a nice way to get some info about where certain models might be hiding out since a lot of yards don't keep inventories on what they currently have on their lots. That same Pick-n-Pull might drag in a model that would be useful to me tomorrow, but I'm not planning on making the 2 hour drive again anytime real soon to find out. Now if you find your specific model out there, by all means you may want to keep your secret under your hat. But just like in my case, there are probably a lot of treasures hiding out there that will be useful to others. So, what do you all think? Would this make for a useful sticky?
