Cut-away car on the Haynes Manual
Anybody ever notice that the car on the cover of the Haynes manual is a Euro 300D Turbo with SLS? It also has a cloth interior and rear headrests.

I imagine it was all done by a very skilled human or humans. You don't see them anymore as much though, so maybe its too complicated for a computer to do. In looking at my old magazines I find that there is at least one spectactular cutaway dwg per issue.

Seems like a cutaway would be fairly easy for a talented CAD artist/drafter.
Build the car in AutoCAD. Make the skin on some sections "transparent". Done.

doubtful this was done in cad. this is hand drawn by graphic artists. I see our Industrial Design guys do this all the time. It would take forever to model a car in cad, I have spent about 25 hours modeling a bellhousing in cad, i cant imagine doing a whole car

Yes, I agree that this particular car appears to not be a CAD model. I was more answering the general "How do they do this." I imagine at this point most of the auto makers have templates for their most common parts, and adjustable "general" templates for other common parts to massively expedite the process. From scratch it would take forever...
