1983 300CD I need help identifying my transmission and correct modulating valve.
1983 300CD
The previous owner replaced the transmission with a new or rebuilt in 1999. I have the receipt from the dealer. He paid $1947 for it. The part number is listed as: 123-270-59-01-88 Checking under the car I found a metal tag on the drivers side of the bell housing with the numbers: 123 270 5901 348658 There is a flat spot on the passenger side just above the oil pan but it is smooth, no numbers. Does not appear to be ground off, but it could be. ?? 1. What transmission do I have? I'm guessing I have a 722.3, maybe a 722.315. 2. What modulator valve should I have? There is a green one on there now. It leaks. The dealer gave me a black one with a part number A126 270 9179. Shouldn't it be green? |

How bout this,
Are all modulator valves the same?... that is, mechanically. Are they colored red, green, black, and natural just because they are preset from the factory to provide a given modulator pressure? or indeed, are the guts of the valve different? Put another way, could we install any of the various colors in the car, and then set with a gauge the proper pressure, ...would it operate just like any other color? |
