1984 300d project

Hello Folks

I came home today with a 1984 300D that had hit a deer. The front headlights, fan, shroud, radiator, oil cooler,etc... etc... all are going to have to be replaced. The car was running when it hit the deer. The body is in good condition with no rust. The interior is very clean. I am not sure whether it is a turbo diesel or not. The radiator expansion tank is missing. Does anybody have a picture of the engine compartment layout? I know this is a project but I am up for the task. I have not tried to crank the car. I am praying the engine is OK.
Any feedback would be much appreciated. This is my first experience with a diesel, so go easy on me.

Thanks
BB

The biggest risk is that the oil cooler failed and allowed it to lose oil pressure while it was still running. Does it have oil left in the engine? Can you turn over the engine by hand to verify that it's not seized?

yes, it has a lot of oil in the engine. The fan turns, but it is bent. I hope the shaft is not bent. But it turns freely.

If it's a U.S. spec 84 300D, its a turbo. Look under the air cleaner housing, you should see a u-shaped plastic intake tube that connects to the inlet of the turbo. If you remove that tube you will see the interior of the turbo.

If it didn't lose oil, hopefully it will be OK.

Conversely, if the air cleaner outlet goes straight down into the intake manifold, it doesn't have a turbo.
