damn..........

84 300sd. odometer displays 218 and change in 'k' miles. suspect.

sometimes the odometer works. sometimes not. used to get 25 to 27 mpg. lately less than 20.

driver's power seat 'self activates'. cured by removing appropriate fuze.

oil pressure reads higher than a 'new' car. at idle, fully warmed on hot day,
see 2.2 bars. again, at idle.

air intake needs attention. is loose. filter housing vibrates. i have a diesel louder than supposed to be.

the list goes on. lucas electrics? i be an idiot. ergo lack of attention to problems? ****ty design?

have fun. and dump appropriatly(sp). without guilt.

oh, one other thing. glow plug circuit be a problem too.

.
Check the mileage against highway mileage signs or with a GPS odometer to rule out odometer error in this calculation, since you already suspect it may be there. Sudden mileage drops are not common without other symptoms to accompany.

Take the switch apart and clean the contacts, search for damage, and replace if it continues to malfunction after cleaning.

This is normal for these engines. It is in fact a good sign. The pressure reading is accurate; Mercedes deliberately installed an oil pressure gauge that is incapable of displaying the full pressure achieved by the engine.
