Snow states (and countries)...
My father in law lives in Ontario Canada, right on one of the Great Lakes - they get CRAZY snow at his place, and he swears by getting an undercarriage coating every year. Living in Michigan, we get a fair bit of snow, but I've never thought of doing that coating.
Anyone do that here? My 84 300D could probably use the coating to avoid any rust - it does not have any so far. Also, how about snow tires? Do you guys use them? Which ones? When do you put them on? How much of a difference does it make? (I've never owned a rear drive car). TIA,

We get snow in northern Nevada, but usually not a whole lot. They didn't even use salt here until pretty recently (bastids started while I was out of the country).
First question-what does this coating consist of? I know they used to spray undercarriages with oil at the start of every winter and it supposedly worked great but the tree huggers shut that down. I would be concerned that whatever they use now could trap moisture and salt and actually make the problem worse. Snow tires-I had some on the 240D this past winter. The 300 wore high performance summer tires, and I just drove the 240 when it snowed. In previous winters I had (05-06) a 4x4 with all terrain tires and (04-05) a RWD Lincoln with some very good performance all seasons. The snow tires I had came with the car and were an older technology variety. They didn't seem to make any difference over a regular all season tire. I understand modern snow tires have gotten very good. New to RWD-I'm in the opposite category. I've had nothing but RWD vehicles, except for that 4x4 I used to have. Based on how badly things tend to go when I attempt to drive a FWD car, I think you will experience a real learning curve when traction goes away.

Never snows here, but it does ice about twice a year. Tire chains do wonders. Not sure if how long they'd last if you left them on all the time tho...

I only put snow tires on the front (not in Louisiana, but when I lived in WA), so you can stop...you can have some drifting fun in the snow that way.
