woo hoo!! New 240D!!

I found the perfect 240D for enthusiasts here locally in Tucson. I'm so excited over it my girlfriend thinks I'm crazy.

It's a 1982 model, manual transmission, power sunroof, crank windows. The only "modifications" on it are 300SD wheels and a custom stereo system (has a CD player and alpine speakers). Other then that it's nearly 100% mint and original.

It's a *ONE* owner car and has spent it's entire life in Tucson, AZ. It's been garaged so there is no sun damage. Everything works... including the air conditioning! I was ecstatic over that.

It needs a good engine bay cleaning, a right rear tire, and a vacuum line fixed (not sure what it does...).

The owner was asking $1200.00 for it. I didn't even haggle... I just showed up with cash and took the car home

Tint on the driver's side window is jacked up. The window fell down so the previous owner used duct tape to hold it back up

If you bought if from some hippies on ebay, or some guys who took killer pics it would be a $7500 car.
Great car and a great price. Congrats!

From 10 feet away i hope you mean. A restored car is never as good as an original car (in otherwise the same condition), and there seems to be no outside source that says the "hippie" cars are as good as the pics and their own web site says they are.

Actually, for what it's worth, I checked out one of the jgsmercedes.com cars (a blue Euro 300D for sale a few months back) and found it to be very accurately depicted. It was truly stunning -- I'd even say better than it appeared in the photos.

If I didn't like it so much I'd turn it over to them and have them market it for me

I just fixed 2 vacuum leaks and tightened up the steering box. I'm going to replace the right rear tire tomorrow and probably get the window re-tinted sometime.

Well that's good to hear, but I still find it strange that cars like this 240D can be bought for $1200, and then you have the "hippies" that sell their cars for orders of magnitude higher. This is not a strange thing- original cars selling for under $2000 that are in excellent shape. Obviously some sellers find cars and detail them and sell them with a unheard of markup. To each his own, but I do not have a high opinion of anyone who would do that.

I don't know if it was in as good of shape, but I saw a 240d manual 4 speed with about 150k on the odo selling for $700 on Craigslist a couple weeks ago. The deals definitely can be found... though it may depend on where you are. Here in California, there are a lot of them around, so I think people tend not to value them so much and not all of them are owned by enthusiasts.

Then there are people who just WANT IT NOW and want a perfect specimen and are willing to pay for it. That's how these "hippies" are able to sell the cars so high.

Looks like you did well for $1200.00 As you start digging through the car you will start finding things to clean, repair or replace. as long as it doesn`t have any rust and you have a clean platform, what more could you ask for on a 26 yr old car.

Iam green with envy
