No, I cried like a little bitty baby! It is very disconcerting to have such a burning pain in your eyeball! For the rest of the night it had that "scratchy" feeling like when you get something in it and it abrades the eyeball.
Today it still burns but is not blood red anymore. Vision is OK.
Getting back to the job after lunch.........

Yea, that manly diaper bag wasn't the biggest upgrade now was it?

After church spent pretty much the entire afternoon dorking with the wagon. First I tackled that pesky driver's side engine mount.

looked pretty ominous looking down at the mount, but nothing much could have prepared me for the mount I pulled out. In hundreds of pieces!!

That is the new mount on the left and what is left of the old mount. The pic says it all.

I always HATE re-threading the 8mm allen screw back through the mount and into the engine arm. It never goes right in now does it?
I also replaced the power steering hose.
Took the wagon on a test drive for a couple of miles and it drove really well. SLS is working wonderfully as I went on some bumpy roads. Front end was really tight and none of the boots were torn. LCA bushings look solid!
And for some reason the tranny started working perfectly. I had instant engagement from drive to rev and back. And I had all 4 gears this time although it shifts outta 3rd too fast on it's own.
All news isn't good, though. Got home and opened the hood and have hydraulic fluid everywhere. I imagine the high pressure hose has a leak. Great, that would mean it has blown on all 3 wagons I've owned. You just can't get much over 25 years out of those things I guess.
Also the primer pump is pouring out when running, and yes, right down on my new mount. Well, we'll get to that next.

Wow ... diesel really takes its toll on those mounts. My passenger side mount was torn into a few pieces, but not that bad!

(leaky turbo drain and wastegate hose)

Replaced my old style primer pump with a newer style that I got from the salvage yard. The old primer pump didn't have a copper sealing ring. Wonder if that is why it was pouring. I installed the new pump with a copper ring from my Harbor Freight kit. It certainly ain't the exact replacement, a little wide really, but we'll see. Couldn't start it as the SLS lines and reservoir are off right now.
I removed the SLS reservoir and cleaned that nasty thing inside and out. {Can't have the inside dirty either} Replaced the low pressure hose with some 3/8 fuel line. I'm gonna remove the high pressure line tomorrow and take it to a hydraulic hose shop and get it rebuilt. If that wasn't my leak then I've experienced that it soon will be. Geez, you can only get a quarter century out of these things.
Definitely determined that my front windshield is leaking. It poured today so I went out and sat in the car for awhile. It appears to leak down the inner firewall, under the hard insulation/sound abatement material and ends up in rear floor. Will post windshield seal question........
My neighbor who I bought the wagon from told me that the AC compressor isn't that old, and it is a nice Delco unit. System still has R12 in it, although I don't know how much. Compressor doesn't come on, but I have come close to looking at that yet.
Got insurance today so I can register and inspect it soon. This might end up being a keeper and being my beater wagon, kind of a mutt like China that I don't have to worry about. Was very pleased with how it drove the other day......

You don't even wanna see under the hood of Norm right now.

I'm going to catch up with you this weekend.

High pressure line too?.. damn you wagonmaster.... making me feel bad about myself.

Something has knocked the air cleaner a bit loose on Ol' Turbo, too. Its slightly rattling on accelerations. I'm falling behind.

I could work on mine for months, maybe years, and it will never look as good as Norm. I'll have to focus on functionality......
And man, the puddle I have in the rear passenger floorboard.....

This must be cheap car motor mount week. I did the Left mount and oil lines on the $500 SD this weekend. Lots of swearing ensued. Those oil lines are a pain!

Unhappy Two steps forward, three steps back......

Remember, don't go into old diesel Mercedes ownership without wearing your cup! Yes, I got kicked in the nuts today.......
Things started off well like they so often do. Removed my high pressure SLS line today and took it to the hydraulic shop. They said I could have it this afternoon. Cool.
From there went and got the registration for the wagon and got my plates and windshield sticker. Went back a bit later and picked up my new hydraulic hose. Good job as usual.
Came home and got to it.
First thing I did was barely touch the radiator hose, and yes, the neck snapped clean off. Barely touched the stupid thing. Sigh.....
Went ahead and installed the high pressure hose, low pressure return hose too. As luck would have it, I bought a complete SLS system several months ago, and he also had some R12 and a radiator I purchased. Couldn't remember if it was a 240 style or a 617.95x variety. Removed it from it's well packaged box and low and behold a beautiful late model radiator for a turbo diesel. Cool!!
Drained radiator, disconnected transmission lines and pulled out broken radiator. Installed "new" radiator, connected hoses and tranny lines and filled with water for now.
Leaked like it had been shot 4 times. Cleanest looking worthless radiator you will ever run across!
So, still can't drive the car up for its inspection, the last step from being street legal. Now I have to find a radiator.
Uh, anybody in the DFW area have a radiator for an OM617.95x?

Not in DFW, but maybe someone in Memphis might know where there is one.
