I'm experiencing some problems with the AC on my 87' 190d(non turbo) and was hoping someone had the same issue and knows what the problem is. The AC seems to only work when I turn it on from a cold start after sitting in the garage overnight. I'm told this is because the AC system is low on freon. This sounds about right, but when the AC does not work or stops working while driving the heater turns on. This happens even with the temp control turned down for cooling. This only happens when the AC switch is depressed. If I turn the AC switch off the heater turns off. Is there something else wrong other than low on freon?

Wow, your A/C actually worked. I'm on my second 190d and still no A/C.
These cars have issues with the compressors and control units, but you can by rebuilt units off ebay for a couple hundred bucks plus a couple hundred to have your system pressure checked, leaks fixed and re-charged with refrigerant. I just roll the windows down (those that work)..... ![]() |
