Question Where do primer pumps usually leak from?

Hey everyone!

Here's the situation. My car starting sputtering really bad yesterday and sure enough my prefilter was clogged. So, filter replaced all is good. Now I am noticing fuel seepage where the primer pump (old style) screws into the lift pump, but the 'shaft' of the primer pump is dry. It seems to be seeping with engine static as well. I put a wrench on it and gave it maybe another 1/8 of a turn but still seeps? Any ideas or is replacing the only solution? I didn't noticed a leak before replacment nor did I use the pump at all after replacement. Could the way the car was running (really sputtering) have caused this?
