I know the 18 head is the same angle as the 22, it is outlined in the FSM regarding the updated head and necessary matching prechambers.
Interesting that the casting number appears sandblasted or corroded, yet the rest of the head appears to be in good condition. Did you buy this from Adsitco? How about the water jacket opening shown in the second photo?

It is my opinion, based on comparing the angle of the injectors in your "new" head to the angle of the injectors in my 22 head, that your "new" head is NOT a later head, but a #14 head.
It is further my opinion, based on the crisp lettering and overall condition of the head compared to the sandblasted or otherwise eroded area in ONLY the casting number of your "new" head, that you have been intentionally defrauded, the seller knew that it was a #14 head and attempted to disguise it for the specific purpose of selling it as a more valuable later casting. I feel that you should get your money back and do whatever you can asap, many consumer protection measures (such as Michigan's 72hour right of rescission) are time sensitive.

I have consulted the FSM to be sure I'm not giving you bad information.
As of 10/89 the #17 head casting was current. Before that, I believe it was the #15 casting had some changes, including increasing the height of the bridge in the timing chain cavity. So, if you measure the thickness of the metal, where the two bolts go through in the timing chain cavity, you should know. If it is 12mm thick, it is, from my research, a #14 head casting. If it is a #15 or above, it will be 32mm thick where the bolts go through.

i contacted the company and they indicated that they may have sent the worng unit, i sent them some images to compare when they begin looking, for now i will give them the benefit of the doubt and will allow them time to either get the correct one or process a refund. either way they go i will post the outcome later.
