what the heck is this sound? (300 Turbo Diesel video)
so, this car (other than the sound, runs great)and has tons of power... doesn't consume much oil, does not have excessive blowby.... what is this sound?

nothin'
|
Bad injector and the idle is too high.
|
swapped injectors with known good ones, didn't go away.
|
i recently adjusted my valves and a very similar sound went away
and whats up with that idle? |
the idle is set at 750 as far as I can tell. And I just did a valve adjustment (hoping the sound would go away)
|
sounds normal to me.
you do know its a diesel, correct? |
are they supposed to be that loud??? I hear other MB diesels drive by all the time, and they purr like a kitten, this one has a nasty knock sound to it...
yes, I know its a diesel, I have swapped the injectors, adjusted the valves, changed the oil, fuel filters (valves had been neglected) check the chain, basically did some maintenance... I can't get this sound to go away.. |
thats because it won't go away. Its a old 617. Look for other video's on youtube.
|
I had given up hope that the nosie would go away, just curious what it was... no big deal, the engine has oil pressure so "run it" and call it a day I guess. :)
|
allmost sounds like a rod...
|
I thought it was a rod at first as well, but I have been driving it for three weeks, and no ill effects... So I don't think its a rod...Unless a rod could be bent for a long time, and not eat bearings. I'm not sure with these old MB diesels, I don't know that much about them. :)

guess i'm gonna keep on drivin it, the car is very nice to drive, and no one wants to buy it... either way I have another good motor for it in my garage so if it goes bad, its no big deal. Thanks to all who chimed in, wouldn't mind hearin some other opinions though. :)

The last one I had that sounded like that, started making that noise and an hour later punched holes in both sides of the block
