Black Diesel - Black Diesel Processor - Ever Heard of This?

Saw this on Craigslist

http://houston.craigslist.org/pts/872971714.html

"Make black diesel from easy to find used motor oils, transmission fluid, hydralic fluid etc. It's easier to find, easier to make and gives better MPG and power than biodiesel. It works great in Ford powerstrokes, Dodge cummins, VW and Mercedes diesels. Learn more.... "

www.oiltofuel.com

I have heard of burning used motor oil in diesel engines, but have never heard of a "Processor" for it.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I think it would be compared to heavy fuel oil i think #3 or something used in locomotives and marine engines it's basically engine oil or close to it. Total scam for our engines tho would likely ruin the pump score the injectors and gum up the engine due to the ash in oil

I have read other threads here about filtering out the heavy ash and steel particles. Is it possible to clean the oil up enough to run it safely?

On the black diesel web site they say it is processed to burn in engines for ocean liners. I don't think they would risk that motor a thousand miles out at sea.

Anyone know or heard about this being burned in other engines? What modifications have been made to a commercial diesel engine to burn this?

Your Benz may be big, but it's no ocean liner.

Yes it is run in ocean going ships, However, those engines are in no way
comparable to an engine the size of a mercedes. Also, Ships use a centrifuge
unlike anything you have ever seen to clean oil. It can take that nasty
black stuff and clean it down to where you can see through it

Personally, I would not burn it in anything I care about, So I guess
it would be ok in a Ford or Cummins.
On the flip side, The cetane rating is higher than commericial diesel.

So I guess you have to ask yourself.....
Do I Feel Lucky.

Do an internet search for Bunker C. This is a fuel that is or was used in the big Diesel Main engine type ships.
In trade school they told us that Bunker C was not to far away from being just plain Crude Oil and that on the ship you need to heat the Bunker C to lower the viscosity and filter it well before it went into the fuel injectin system.

Also the newer ships may not be powered by Diesel Engines at all they are more likely using Steam Turbines. If so the "Black Diesel" is only used to heat the boiler.

I think it was cummins that sold a filter/pump kit for class 8 trucks to re-cycle the drain oil into the fuel tank. but there you're talking 10 gal oil to 260 gal diesel.

Well, some...ugh...guys that I know...made some black diesel once. They were running red diesel and needed to make it not so red. Solution was to dump about a gallon of used crankcase oil into the fuel tank. I think they filtered it through a t-shirt or something first.

Sounds like bunker fuel. Nasty stuff that needs to be heated up to burn. Woe be it to the sucker who tries that in a diesel thats not rated for it.

Running oil as fuel, it will make the car smoke like an industrial smokestack. filtering and using half a gallon of it in ULSD per full tank might not hurt anything. ULSD has much lower lubricity.
for giggles, one could try burning mustard oil in the engine. The guy behind you might not appreciate it though.

Man, I would love to hear the stories from some of the Idiots that try that system. Because you know for every one smart person there are at least 500 stupid gullible ones.

Sounds like you should definitely not run it straight, however after an oil change if you filter it, (I think a t-shirt is not the best idea) through a really fine filter, probably let it settle for a day or two to let the heavy particles settle to the bottom of your container. Then siphon off the top and pour that into a full tank of Low Sulfur Diesel (LSD for our engines) it will help with lubrication and be a great way to recycle used engine oil. Since I am using Mobil 1 full synthetic, I can get a little of my money out of it.

Anyone know what kind of filter would get the most contaminates out of the oil?

Any opinions on that conclusion?

Here is an exerpt from the black diesel web site:

"We all know what kind of world we live in and why the following is nessasary:

Using Black diesel as a fuel on a roadway would be a violation of law because road taxes have not been paid. Do so at your own risk.

Use of motor oil based fuel is not approved by the EPA.

Black Diesel, like Biodiesel should be considered experimental fuel. If you choose to use the ideas offered here, you do so at your own risk. I cannot control the quality of your oil supply, the condition of your engine or the quality of your finished product and I will not be held responsible for damages of any kind. Consider this information for entertainment only.

Working with highly flammable chemicals is obviously very dangerous. Always use your best judgement and observe all safety procedures for working with hazardous, flammable chemicals. No Smoking!

Motor oil like most fuels are known to cause cancer."

At least people are warned about the legalities...
