Trouble cold starting

It is starting to get a little cooler here and I am noticing trouble starting the 300 sd already.

Other than this problem the engine runs nice.

When she does start, it like a bucking bronco until it warms a little. And no power at all.

Things I thought it could be.

1. Bio Diesel - running a 3 to 1 mix with diesel
2. Glow Plugs

What can I do to improve this?

I also read in the user manual that you can give the engine some throttle when starting in the cold. I thought that was a no no.
