Transmission clunk, probable vacuum issues

Hey guys,
My 300SD's shifting harshness seems to be getting worse. It "flares" between shifts. But the harshness depends more on how hard I am accelerating or not. If I take off quicker it doesn't shift as hard(most of the time) But if I'm driving slower between stoplights it shifts harder. It also sometimes clunk when slowing down. I don't have a vacuum tester. Is there anything obvious I can look for? Of course the rear end of my car is still "whining". I believe it is either my driveshaft or axle. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, my door locks and dash vents etc seem to be working properly. Thank-you in advance
