unless you're riding with the windows open, I'd take a carbon monoxide detector.

I can't believe you're driving it back...

babymog 01-09-2009 11:42 AM

Does it have juice brakes or air?

alabbasi 01-09-2009 11:47 AM

There was a 309D for sale locally about a year ago. It was used as a flat bed but the owner took the bed off so it was just the cab and frame. It has a 5 speed. He only wanted $1500 or so for it.

Hydraulic system. Power assist optional

Filters yes, I forgot all kinds of filters.

411 miles. I don't expect to drive it back that weekend. Just getting it prepped mostly. I suspect one tire will need replacing so that will be a hamper.

Fuel, we'll bring a fresh 5 gal jug with us. If the tanks are really bad I will feed from jug (and buy others of course) with hose straight to filter.

Certainly going to be a road trip THATS FOR SURE.

And she has a nickname. NightMare.

Friday is the day we leave. One member of the restoration crew has dropped out so I am trying to find a replacement.

Looking closer at those pics your frame rails are in really good shape everything else just needs a blasting ,brushing and 2 layers of paint.Youll want to grease a wheel bearing or 2 before any long journeys ,a sitter like this one will hide some surprising moments on the road.Tires I think you hit on ,the prob with long sits is a tire forms to its resting weight ,youll have a bobble in her wobble when at speed.Set the main sail just bring up the anchor first.

Man, I wish I could come along. This is exactly my kind of fun! :D

I'm totally serious by the way. If I were local and I had the weekend I would offer up my services.

Ya thats what I am hoping for is a lot of surface rust. Everything *looks* solid. Can't wait to get dirty.

Talk to Patrick at www.eurocarparts.co.uk. He should be able to get most parts for you I think. He can probably send you a paper parts catalog. The with British pound dropping like a stone, parts will be relatively cheap.

winmutt 01-26-2009 05:09 PM

There is a Mog parts place near Atlanta, Euro trucks something or another. They have been very helpful. More importantly they can get the windscreen which I am VERY nervous about when it comes to shipping.

just in case your road trip doesn't go as planned:

OM314 (turbo) for sale
http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/pts/1008785715.html

I have a rare , modified 3.8L Mercedes 4 cylinder engine for sale. I bought this to put in my Range Rover, but have not gotten around to doing it yet. A diesel mechanic in Virginia had added the turbo and made custom manifolds for it. Will have about 150-180 Horsepower, and 300 Ft pounds of torque. Came out of a Mercedes commercial moving truck. In good shape, and sold complete with bellhousing, clutch , injection pump, starter (24V) - everything to drop in your truck , car, marinize for a yacht , or ?? Great condition and hard to find. I would like to sell this as soon as possible, please email with any questions, thank you 503=477-7752

I'm jealous. I gotta old Holiday Rambler diesel but I'd rather take a shot at doing an old Benz RV. But at least mine runs, lol.

winmutt 01-27-2009 12:01 PM

I am sourcing all the filters locally.

If I change the engine I will try to wedge an om352 in there. That om314 turbo was listed on ebay for a while.
