1992 300D advice.....

Anyone have any pluses or negative comments on this model. I found the ad online and I’m going to look at it Saturday if it’s not sold by then.

How does this engine compare to the one in my 84 300CD?

1992 with the 2.5L Turbo Diesel
139k miles
No Maintanence records (they got it on a trade)
Dealer will provide CARFAX
AC works (according to dealer)
Looks great in the ad.
Price $ 4995

Thanks

I have one of those cars so my opinion may be a bit biased! Great car,the engine is a slight bit more complex but it is also more modern and does not require periodic valve adjustment. The ride and handling is much nicer than the older cars and the fuel mileage is a little better i get 30 to 32 depending on how much of the time is highway. That car would not bring that much money in this area unless it was very exceptional, especially with no maintenance history. Don

New, to You, RIDE

"Somebody has their Cranium in their Nether Regions" (AND it's spelled DEALER)

'Just out of curiosity...It's not a Mercedes Dealer is it?

CARFAX is wishful thinking on the seller's part. The Dealers know so many ways
around it,that it's only a "Confidence Man's Tool".

With no records ('Cause you've Absolutely No Idea Whose Been Under the Hood)

I'd show the Dealer (Not the SalesWeasel,or the SalesWeasel's Manager,or the
F+I guy) 28 "Franklins" ...AND be ready to walk...If the first words out of
Her/His mouth is ANYTHING other than,"YES and we appreciate your business"

I would sure take that baby to an Independent who "Could be Trusted" for
a Pre-Purchase Inspection!

No, it’s not a MB Dealership (Nissan)

I was reading a few posts from members in the same situation and one thing was clear “Maintenance Records - Maintenance Records - Maintenance Records”.

All the Internet Sales Manager could tell me was that the AC worked, and she mentioned that because she had other calls on this car and they all asked about the AC. I figured the AC rebuild/work most be costly since the guys calling all asked about it. I asked if she knew the history of the car and about the maintenance records, I was told they got it on a trade in and had no records.

I’m supposed to call today to see if it’s available and I’ll ask if I can have an indy take a look at it.

I was thinking of checking NADA, KBB and Edmunds and with that information I was going to make a reasonable offer.

Thanks guys for your advice!!!

Good ones tend to sell for more than book value so there could be an insurance gap.

Definitely get a PPI since there are no records.

I will feel more modern than your CD. Quieter, smoother, lighter.

Good engines all around but for some reason 602s wear the chain and cam sprocket more quickly than 601s or 603s do. Also prone to head gasket leak between the main oil journal and #1 cylinder.
