Failing Tranny Modulator?

What are the symptoms of a failing Transmission Modulator on my 86' 300SDL?

Very delayed upshifts are the symptoms, but the problem might not be the modulator itself. Remove the hose to the modulator and use an auxilliary vacuum source to ensure that it is not leaking. If it is not leaking you will have to find the vacuum leak or correct the vacuum circuit problem. If there IS a vac leak in the modulator it must be replaced.

Usually with a ruptured modulator the vacuum pump draws ATF into the engine. If there's no ATF in the vacuum line to the modulator, it's probably okay.
