Dash Lite indicator on, but all bulbs OK?

My 95 E300 is showing the indicator for a burned out bulb on the dash display but all my lights are OK. I have even gone to the trouble of taking each one out and making sure they are making good contact. Am I missing something, how can I shut it off. Could this be the start of the wiring harness problem common to these cars? Any ideas are appreciated because I am stumped.

have you checked the less obvious ones- license plate, third brake?

You checked all the bulbs around the car or all the bulbs in the display? The warning system is for exterior bulbs.

If the warning light stays on when you turn off the lights, it means a bad turn signal or brake bulb. If it goes off, it means a bad running or headlight bulb.

It should reset when you start the engine. Do you apply the brakes when starting the engine? If you do and the light comes on immediately, it's probably a bad brake bulb.

I checked all the bulbs around the car. The dash light stays on without the headlights being on so that would point turn or brake, both of which are fine.

Do left and right turn signals flash at the expected rate? Nothing flashing faster than usual?

Did you recently replace or move around brake bulbs? The system is very sensitive to bulb wattage.

Are you sure it's the orange bulb warning light that's on?

I had a bad exterior light relay in my 87 SDL. I could hear something rattling when I shook it. I had a friend reflow the solder joints. He didn't find anything loose inside. It didn't flash any warnings after that.

Oh, my 87 300D warning light comes on whenever I turn on the lights. There's a loose connection in the side marker of left tail light cluster. The warning light clears when I go over a bump or thump my fist on the tail light cluster... which makes the side marker illuminate.

I have this same problem now, replaced a bulb on the left side rear light and I had to pry the connector up to make contact in order to get it to work. The dash indicator light is still on.

I do have to replace the headlight switch and combo switch they are both failing. Could this be the cause? High beams have never worked since I got the car and recently the foglights will not stay on- when I pull the switch out they light up but the switch pulls right back in.
