Does my 95 even have an altitude sensor?

(95 E300D)
I've been having this nagging intake flap/egr problem for a while now. The last thing I have to test aside from the egr and elr relays (if I can even figure out how to test those) is the altitude sensor that is supposedly on my car. Even the part number, 000 153 92 32 took 20 minutes for the parts guy at MB to find. If you search for the part # in epc net, you will see in the picutre that the part is just floating somewhere above the injection pump. They really don't make it easy to guess where it actually attaches. I couldn't find it anywhere on the ip, and tracing wires on the harness led me nowhere.

Now I have my car on jack stands with the intake manifold completely removed. I still can't find it anywhere. Does it look different from the picture? Does anyone know where this part is, or have I been duped by a red herring?

Exactly how does your issue manifest itself?
I have a wicked stall upon the shifting of gears and have a bad flapper valve diaphram. The smaller one on the cross-over pipe. Not real sure what these valves do, but have been advised it could be my issue.
The altitude thing on the IP looks just like an Alda from a turbo engine. Matter of fact, you have to remove it to get to glow plug #3......

Here it is removed:[and upside down]

You can see it in this pic:[black cylindrical cap on top]

The resonance flap in the crossover pipe is completely missing in mine and has been since I purchased the car (almost looks like it was intentionally broken off) - so if it doesn't cause a perforamance problem, I don't notice it since it drives the way it always has since I bought it. I plan to replace it at some point, but haven't gotten to it yet. If you guys want to swap numbers on shifting patterns, etc, let me know. I think there was a somewhat related thread to this some time ago - I'll try to locate it.

There is another '95 for sale near me, and I think I may go look at it just to see how it drives compared to mine. My tranny seems to shift perfectly, it was also just rebuilt. It is just when the rpm's drop a bit during shifts I get a noticeable hesitation. Falls right on its nose. This isn't really noticeable when accelerating quickly, but more on the easy slower takeoffs.

Thanks for the pic JimmyL. I wondered what that thing was when I removed it to get to the GP. I recall having to use a big pipe wrench to remove it.

The intake flap upstream of the egr valve doesn't work because its associated switchover valve is getting no electricity at the given rpms. I am having the same problem with the egr valve, but intermittently. I'm going through some pretty extensive egr testing procedures and have eliminated everything except for the egr/elr relays and the altitude sensor.

So that is the altitude sensor. I guess my problem now is that I don't know how to test it. I am supposed to test the voltage and resistance but there is no plug in plain sight. It may also be interesting to note that the picture in epc net shows both the one in your picute, Jimmy, and one with a two pin plug which seems at this point to not exist in my car.

Tankowner, while my resononce flap on the crossover pipe hasn't broken off, but the vacuum box attachment is bent as though someone just tried to pull it off.

Makes me wonder if the flaps in the crossover get damaged because people don't realize they are there at first and wreck them trying to removed the pipe.

I'm not sure how you'd wreck them just pulling off the crossover pipe.
Mine just has a bad diaphragm. $264 bucks because of a rubber diaphragm!
Needless to say, haven't purchased one yet. It would be worth it if I knew that is what was causing my hesitation "post shift".

Kaiser, what symptom or issue lead you to start down this path? [in other words, what type of egr problem started this?]

Question Stall

[QUOTE=JimmyL;2143932]"Exactly how does your issue manifest itself? I have a wicked stall upon the shifting of gears and have a bad flapper valve diaphram. The smaller one on the cross-over pipe. Not real sure what these valves do, but have been advised it could be my issue."

I had the injection pump rebuilt at a location near Fort Dodge IA, and every since has been stalling when hot when placed into to gear to move forward or reverse. There are adjustments inside the rear cover, unfortunately however it appears these appear impossible to get to without removing the injection pump. I believe the stalling may be a governor issue with regard to the stalling and high rpm revs over 1000 while in neutral. I plan to call the company that rebuilt it to have them bench it again.
FYI I did remove the flaps on the crossover and on the egr with no perceptable difference in running. I've since plated/covered the egr intake after seeing all the gunk this sucks into the intake. I did clean and re-install the intake crossover flaps and no perceptable difference.
Hopefully my experience thus far will help you diagnose yours.
