W-126 Wheel and light upgrade

I have a 1985 300SD. It currently has the 14 inch wheels and glass sealed beam headlights. I have 15 inch rims and composite head lights from a 1987 300SDL. I was told for the wheels I need to make spacers for the wheels. Is there a company that sells the spacer or do you know of the specs and the material to get (and from where) to make spacers? For the lights, will they plug in without any modification to the wiring harness or is there an adapter that I can buy to make it work? I appreciate your advice.

The 15" wheels will fit the SD without modification.

The headlights, if they are the Euro headlights, will require you to change the plug on the existing wiring harness to the Euro type connector. There's threads in the archives about it.

Make sure the wheels are either 7J15H2 ET25 or 6,5J15H2 ET21,5. If the ET is something like 34 or 49, you might have interference problems. W126 wheels are so common that it's not worth messing with spacers and longer bolts.

I'm not aware of an adapter. You have to open the existing 4-pin headlight connector and transfer the pins to a 6-pin tail light connector. MB connectors make this very easy. Pin position is in the archives. You have the option of having the headlight glow dimly as a city light. There's a small bulb or at least a socket for a small bulb under the main headlight bulb. While the connectors are easy to work on, they don't take kindly to high wattage bulbs. Neither does the wiring. Consider relays and a wiring upgrade if you're going to run more than 65-70 watt bulbs.

3rd on the lights being easy. If you want the city light to work you need to add one wire between the side marker and the headlight.

If the wheels are 126 part numbers, then they bolt right on. If they are the very similar looking 124 series wheels, then the offset is much greater, 48/49 vice the 21/25.

Headlights, if USA spec, should be plug and play.

I would put on second gen brakes if you get larger wheels.
