Over-adjusted steering box locking up?

I've read that adjusting the screw on the steering box can cause the steering box to lock up when the wheel is turned too far to the right or left.
My last alignment, I was given around 4 degrees caster. I didn't like the way it drove, but it was okay. The wheel turned back and forth. After reestablished the 8 degrees caster, it seems to stick when backing up turned all the way right.
When I pull backward with the wheel turned all the way to the right, then stop and attempt to move forward and turn to the left, the wheels stay locked to the right. If I move forward and back, it will allow me to turn the wheel again, and everything is fine.
I am wondering if this is typical of the over-adjustment of the steering box, or something else? Any ideas?

If the steering box were the issue, it should be locking up regardless of which direction you're travelling. Since it only seems to happen when turning hard over and reversing, it sure sounds like a suspension issue rather than the steering box.

The LCA bushings are looking rather squished. Too much for the eccentric bolt to zero out, as a matter of fact. I guess I'm getting a spring compressor...
Thanks.

Over adjusting the steering box will make the wheel very hard to turn in any direction and the wheel won't ''return'' when you leave your hands off the wheel. It will do this in any direction. How much did you turn the screw on the steering box.

I didn't turn it at all, but I think the PO did. I was wondering if that condition with the steering box would manifest itself when the suspension was adjusted differently, more travel of some components, etc.
I have a new steering box downstairs that I bought about a decade ago and was considering swapping in. (I don't think they're expecting a returned core any more, but they might be surprised.) I bought it for my previous vehicle that I sold before getting around to the repair.
I'd love to do a complete overhaul to feel what it's like to drive a new one, but I don't think that will happen this year. The only obviously worn part that I can see is the LCA bushings, so that will be the extent of it.

BTW, the FSM gives a warning about the steering locking up when turned too far right or left, if the screw is adjusted too much. It has something to do with the center of the gear being worn more than the extremes.

Probably wouldn't hurt to give your steering box nudge in the loosing direction. By nudge I mean no more than 1/8 turn CLOCKWISE. See if it has any effect. If not, return it to where it was and look at your steering linkage components.

I tightened mine (backed out the adjusting screw) to take some of the steering wheel play out, and it made it worse. Without enough play it doesn't self-correct as easily when driving straight. It would drift one way or the other.

Adjust the box for play with the steering turned left or right not centered.
Adjusting when centered at its most loose position means it will go tight when turned.
