OM606 prefilter leak

95 E300D. I have a leak at the prefilter. I took the bolt off and removed the fuel line to have a look. The o ring on the fuel fitting looks O.K., but I will be replacing it anyway. I've searched through the threads on this forum and it appears that there are 3 o rings involved in that prefilter. Can someone give me a diagram or description of where each of them is supposed to fit so I don't skip one? The fuel seems to be coming out from where the metal housing meets the plastic part that the fuel fitting snaps into.

This diagram is for the later 606 but I believe the filter assembly is the same as yours.

I'm pretty sure there's only 2 O-rings on the pre-filter - the one on the inlet line #32 and the one around the larger part of the filter - #29.

Perhaps you recently replaced the pre-filter and didn't replace the o-ring? Pre-filters don't automatically come with new o-rings, you have to ask for and buy them separately. It's #29 in the diagram, goes in a groove on the pre-filter, then the pre-filter is pushed into its hole.

Its hard to determine if the ring is OK by eye......they just loose their elasticity with age and deform and end up with a permanently flattened contact area around the perimeter. The cold temps where you live probably shrinks it up to the point where the slghtly stiff & deformed "O" ring looses its seal.
Cheap fix......just replace occasionally and you should be good to go anywhere!
