Help, won't start

ok, i started my 1985 300sd, it started fine like always, it's 20 degrees outside. I put it in reverse to back out, and i was turning the wheel which was stuck in the snow all the way to the right. as i hit the gas the car died, and then i put it back into park, and the starter won't engage, IS IT STUCk IN REVERSE, did something else break. AHHHHHHHHH. IS it the neutral safty swich, the automatic gear lever does NOT feel floppy like it's not connected to anything. I want to go get my pizza!!!! I'll try starting and jingle the gear shift to see if it's the neutral safty switch. Why would the car die like that?

Did you try Neutral as well as Park? It should start in either one. Are you sure that the key switch is turning all the way to the Start position? Sometimes the steering wheel lock interferes. Try jumping the terminals that directly control the starter solenoid (sorry I don't know where they are on an SD). That will eliminate the key switch and the neutral safety switch.

there should be a junction box directly in front of the battery with 3 scews in it. Jump the smallest screw with the biggest screw. Be sure you have the key turn on too.

That's funny! The last thing I need is another conscience, particularly where my dinner is concerned!
