Leaks, Leaks and more leaks
It's been one of my recent endeavours to stop all the fluid leaks associated with my car. This past weekend I changed the turbo oil drain and associated seals, the oil pan check valve, the oil pan gasket, the oil filter housing gasket and the oil cooler lines. I could not have done it without all the incredible information on this site. After I was done I degreased the engine and have now found some additional leaks:
Oil: There seems to be oil dripping onto the engine shock, oil pan and surrounding areas from up by the turbo on the passenger side. Before I take off the air filter housing I'd like to know what I should be looking for? What are common oil leaks in this area and what are the main seals on and around the turbo? Power Steering fluid: I recently changed both hoses going between the pump and the block, so no leaks there. But, a small amount of PS fluid is developing underneath the pump and dripping onto the AC compressor. I can't figure out where its coming from...any ideas? Transmission Fluid: I see a small amount leaking out of the tranny cooler hose fitting at the radiator, so I know ths needs to be replaced. I also see a decent amount dripping from the seam between the engine and the tranny...is this the rear main seal? Do I have to pull the tranny in order to replace this? Diesel: With the block now clean I can see a small amount of diesel collecting around where the injectors enter the engine. My modest assesment is that this is from the braided hoses which might be weeping...if its not is there a seal on the injectors themselves that might be the culprit (iv'e never pulled an injector). Once again thanks to everyone for all the wonderful info on this forum!

Oil leak- check the oil seperator drain tube. Before you remove the air filter housing reach underneath it and feel for the drain tube. Make sure its connected to the underside of the housing. Other leaks could be, valve cover gasket, intake seal rings, wastgate hose. Just check the seperator drain first because its easy to forget to connect the drain pipe to the air cleaner housing.
Fuel leak-Replace the injector return hoses. Its not unheard of for the 2 halves of the injector body to leak, but more than likely your probem is your hoses. Tranny leak. It might be difficult to tell if its transmission fluid or motor oil leaking between the engine and tranny. Usually went the fluid gets to the point where you can see it, it has mixed up with so much other crud that its hard to tell what kind of fluid you are dealing with. At any rate fixing it would likely require separating the engine and tranny. If its not to bad of a leaker the I say live with it. PS- cant really help you here. I have a leak from my power steering pump and I believe its the front seal. The fluid migrates out to the pulley and gets thrown onto my hood pad Good luck. Leaks can really drive you nuts. Sometimes you just have to learn to live with some of them.

On the oil leak I know it's not oil seperator drain tube cause I had the air filter housing off when I did all that work this past weekend and was very sure to seat it correctly. Its not the valve cover gasket either as I adjusted the valves on Monday and replaced the gasket and as of right cannot see any leaks from this. I'll do a search on the wastegate and intake seal rings. Any gaskets on the turbo itself that might need to be replaced?
On the tranny leak I am positive it's tranny fluid...it's red. It's not a terrible leak but it still isnt that great either. Damn! For the PS I guess it's gotta be the front seal...thats the only place it could come from. Are there any PS pump rebuild kits out there?
